How to transfer your balance

Transferring your balance
.

  • Apply for your new credit card.
  • Once you have been approved and sent a card ready for use you can transfer a balance from your old credit card or other existing loan to your new one by:
    1. Transferring over the internet, provided your new card provider has this facility.

      or

    2. Phone your new card provider to give them the details of the balance you would like to transfer and where to transfer from.

The time process for transferring varies from issuer to issuer so make sure you are clear on how long the transfer is likely to be.

With some credit card issuers you can transfer amounts up until your credit limit is reached, so if you have a credit limit of £2000 you can transfer balances up to this amount. However this is not the case with all, some card issuers may only allow a certain amount below the agreed credit limit. It is therefore advisable to check the balance transfer rules that apply when applying for a new card.
